The Plan Ensures People Can Live Their Lives Knowing the Administration Is Taking the Appropriate Steps to Keep Them Safe

Washington, DC – Today, President Biden released the National COVID-19 Preparedness Plan, designed to help get Americans moving forward safely.

The plan utilizes the number of tools we now have at our disposal that we didn’t at the beginning of the pandemic, including vaccines, life-saving treatments, and free tests. It also announces a new “Test to Treat” initiative, where people can get tested at a pharmacy and in the event of a positive test, receive treatment pills on the spot.

The National COVID-19 Preparedness Plan also acknowledges the possibility of future variants by creating new stockpiles of PPE, masks, tests, and treatment pills, and faster approvals so new vaccines can begin delivery in 100 days. It reaffirms President Biden’s commitment to keeping schools open, preventing future shutdowns, and continuing to be an arsenal for vaccines for the world.

In response, Protect Our Care Chair Leslie Dach issued the following statement:

“From the very beginning of his presidency, President Biden has been laser-focused on combatting the pandemic, keeping Americans safe, and our economy moving forward. While others have spread misinformation and put partisan politics first, the administration has sought to unite us, listened to the science and worked to stay ahead of the virus. Today’s National COVID-19 Preparedness Plan will keep us healthy, be sure we are ready for new variants and challenges, and keep our economy and our schools open for business. It builds on the tools – vaccines, treatments, and tests – that we now have to keep us safe.  It is now up to Republicans in Congress to do what’s best for America and support President Biden’s upcoming request for additional funding so we can continue on the progress we have already made and Americans can be assured that they are staying safe while moving towards normalcy.”
