July 1, 2022: This Week in Republican Efforts to Prolong the Pandemic…

Republicans Like DeSantis Continue to Limit Access to Vaccines for Their Own Political Gain

Over the past two weeks, Republicans continued their fight against the rights of parents to make informed decisions about the health and safety of their children. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis continues his all-out assault on vaccinations, continuing spreading misinformation and lies and advising parents to not vaccinate their youngest children. In addition, DeSantis’ decision to not distribute vaccines for children will limit vaccine access, as admitted by the governor’s surgeon general.

Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson insinuated that President Joe Biden might be plotting the next pandemic, which is out there even for him. The President is trying to make sure we are prepared for whatever comes next, including future pandemics, and Republicans like Johnson are dead-set against doing anything to make sure people can be safe, sacrificing the health and safety of their constituents for their own political gain. As federal funds run low, the Biden administration was unable to purchase enough vaccines to ensure every person who is eligible can have a shot this fall and supply of the most effective COVID antibody treatment is dwindling, thanks to stonewalling from MAGA Republicans.

Elsewhere, in Republican efforts to prolong the pandemic…

Tennessee House Republicans are pressuring their governor to block the state distribution of COVID vaccines for children.

Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas suggested COVID vaccines are derived from the cells of “aborted children”.

And finally, Texas Senator Ted Cruz picked a fight with Sesame Street character and Muppet Elmo. Because Elmo, who, again, is a Muppet, got vaccinated. Elmo, a Muppet and not real, received his (fake) COVID vaccination to reassure kids and their parents that the vaccines are safe and effective, but Senator Cruz took issue with the fact that Elmo (a puppet controlled by a puppeteer) received the COVID vaccine, calling into question its safety in a series of angry tweets. This is shockingly not the first time Senator Cruz has gotten into a fight with a puppet, and will likely not be the last.
