In response to unemployment numbers remaining at the shockingly high 779,000 last week, Protect Our Care’s Coronavirus War Room Director Zac Petkanas released the following statement:
“Unemployment numbers that are continually this bad are a symptom of an economy that’s under duress. We’ve had Great Recession figures for more than 10 months.
“Ten. Months.
“There’s one reason: Donald Trump’s neglectful and disastrous pandemic response has put us so far in the hole, it’ll take enormous effort to climb out.
“That’s why we can’t afford to allow Republicans to hack away at President Biden’s American Rescue Plan. Families need direct stimulus checks, expanded unemployment insurance, housing assistance to help make rent and mortgages, the state and local aid that’ll keep first responders on the job, and, most importantly, the resources to get the virus under control and every person vaccinated so we can finally end this pandemic.
“Every Republican blocking that effort needs to answer why they can look at these unemployment numbers and continue blocking the legislation that will help put Americans back to work.”
