In response to the release of a full outline of the ‘compromise’ proposal from 10 GOP Senators ahead of their meeting with the Biden White House, Protect Our Care’s Coronavirus War Room Director Zac Petkanas released the following statement:
“The proposal from Senate Republicans is even more ludicrous than previously thought. Eleven months into this crisis, Senate Republicans are playing games and firing off proposals that are downright insulting to those struggling to make it through the largest health and economic emergency in modern history.
“It cuts stimulus checks for millions of families, eliminates help for those trying to make rent and mortgage payments, slashes nearly $200 billion off unemployment insurance, ends help for states working to keep essential workers on the job, and strips funding for schools looking to reopen safely. And at a time when millions have lost vital health care coverage during this pandemic, this Republican proposal eliminates President Biden’s common sense plan to expand coverage and make it more affordable for millions of Americans. The cuts are so deep that it begs the question: do they not understand we’re in an emergency?
“This proposal proves only one thing: Senate Republicans are dragging their feet and are not serious about working with President Biden to address this spiraling crisis. This package was a non-starter and they know it.
“Americans across the political spectrum overwhelmingly want President Biden’s American Rescue Plan. Senate Republicans should either get on board or get out of the way while the Biden Administration passes a plan that Americans actually need and want.”
