Washington, D.C. — Protect Our Care’s Coronavirus War Room released a new video to hold Republican lawmakers accountable for their failure to encourage their own constituents to get vaccinated, which is fueling vaccine hesitancy and prolonging the pandemic. Large numbers of Republican senators and representatives are refusing to get vaccinated themselves. Widespread polling shows that vaccine hesitancy is consistently high among Republican voters, and now Republican-led states are falling behind on vaccination rates, while several Democrat-led states have already surpassed President Biden’s goal of getting 70 percent vaccinated by July 4.
“Once again, we’re seeing Republicans playing politics with people’s lives during this pandemic. While President Biden and Democrats in Congress are committed to getting the country closer to normal by the Fourth of July, Republicans are dragging out this pandemic by staying silent on vaccines or spreading outright lies,” said Protect Our Care Executive Director Brad Woodhouse. “It’s plain and simple: GOP leaders and the conservative media must put an end to the conspiracy theories and encourage their supporters and viewers to take the vaccine in order to get the country back on track. If they don’t, Americans will know exactly who is responsible for prolonging this crisis.”
