June 3, 2022: This Week in Republican Efforts to Prolong the Pandemic…

When Will Republicans Act?

As COVID-19 continues to be a serious threat across the country, Republicans refuse to budge on their partisan posturing. While the world would like nothing better than to move on from this dangerous and deadly disease, the fact remains that we need additional funding in order to continue our fight against the pandemic.

We still see Republicans like Florida Governor Ron DeSantis railing against masking requirements. A GOP congressional candidate in Idaho used COVID-19 relief funds to pay for his car and political campaign. And a recent audit showed Arizona Governor Doug Ducey’s office also misspent COVID-19 relief funds.

We know the best way to move past this pandemic is to promote boosters, ensure people can get treated if they do fall ill, and fund research that will lead to stronger vaccines, promote boosters. But without cooperation from Republicans, the funding needed in order to make sure we can access these life-saving vaccines and boosters will dry up, and Americans are already feeling the effects.

Meanwhile, Republicans continue to stonewall and effort to pass additional funding, spread lies and misinformation about the safety of vaccines, and promote partisan messaging around COVID-19 in order to boost their own political standing. These moves are transparent and despicable, designed only to prolong the pandemic in order to hurt President Biden and Democrats politically at the expense the health, safety, and even lives of their own constituents.
