There are two apparent reasons the American people have suffered through a global pandemic and a cratering economy without an aid package: Mitch McConnell is being too immovable and Donald Trump is being too prideful.
The House passed the HEROES Act in May, and an updated version in October, to provide Americans with another $1,200 check, to reinstate $600 enhanced unemployment benefits, to provide nearly $60 billion for rent relief and other housing services, and to support businesses and communities battling the pandemic.
But Trump and Senate Republicans refused to take negotiations seriously. Instead of doing their jobs for the American people, Republicans both on Capitol Hill and in the White House are going out of their way to sabotage any deal that would provide much needed support for the American people.
