Downplaying Virus “Outrageously Hypocritical” For Someone Who Has “Medical Care Unavailable To Everyday People” & Was So Severely Sick That He Was Medevaced To Hospital
In response to Donald Trump’s announcement that he is breaking isolation to return to the White House after a weekend at Walter Reed Medical Center for emergency treatment of COVID-19, Protect Our Care’s Coronavirus War Room Director Zac Petkanas released the following statement:
“Trump’s announcement that he’s returning to the White House after only three days at Walter Reed Medical Center is a danger to public health, and tells the American people everything they need to know about his failure to keep them safe.
“First, he recklessly returned to downplaying the danger of the virus that has killed more than 210,000 Americans, falsely claiming that people shouldn’t be ‘afraid of COVID.’
“This is an outrageously hypocritical statement from someone who has medical care unavailable to everyday people and who received experimental treatments no one else would be able to get.
“It also seems to ignore the fact that he was so severely ill that he had to be medevaced to a hospital, received supplemental oxygen given his difficulty breathing, and is still in danger according to his doctor.
“While he may think it helps him politically to pretend COVID isn’t a big deal, it’s criminal that his message today wasn’t focused on encouraging Americans to engage in the behavior that would have kept him out of the hospital: mask-wearing, social distancing, and hand washing.
“Second, he is violating CDC guidelines by returning while still infected to a building desperately trying to contain a major outbreak of this deadly disease. The fact that he’s willing to endanger the lives of White House support staff like housekeepers, janitors and his Secret Service detail speaks volumes about his priorities.
“Unfortunately, we should come to expect nothing less from someone who in the last week alone has endangered the lives of thousands by participating in fundraisers, rallies and even joy rides in his SUV after he was experiencing symptoms.
“From day one, we’ve known that he is willing to sacrifice American lives for his own political gain. But there’s something especially disturbing and gruesome about witnessing him personally exposing others in real time.
“Americans deserve so much more than this disgraceful behavior.”
