In response to the United States passing yet another tragic milestone, Protect Our Care’s Coronavirus War Room Director Zac Petkanas released the following statement:
“Today, the United States hit another catastrophic milestone and surpassed 8 million coronavirus infections as a direct result of Donald Trump’s failure to protect our country from this deadly disease.
“Eight months into this crisis, the US has only 4 percent of the world’s population but more than 20 percent of the world’s infections and deaths.
“There is no one to blame but Donald Trump, who bungled this response from day one and made matters worse by undermining his experts, downplaying the severity of the virus despite admitting in private he knew the danger, and failing to encourage the most basic mitigation efforts like wearing masks and social distancing. Even his own hospitalization wasn’t enough to encourage him to take seriously this crisis that has killed 217,000 Americans.
“Now, those infected by the virus may have life-long impacts, putting them at risk of being tagged with a pre-existing condition at the same time the Trump Administration is working to strike down their protections.
“When history looks back at this crisis, we’ll remember the human beings that make up the statistics – the loved ones lost to the death toll, the lives forever changed by the infections, and the dreams crushed by the economic collapse. But we’ll also remember that it didn’t have to be this bad and the destruction could have been prevented if Trump hadn’t abandoned the American people.”
