In response to the August unemployment figures, Protect Our Care’s Coronavirus War Room Director Zac Petkanas issued the following statement:
“It is beyond the pale for the Trump team to be cheering an astronomical unemployment rate and slowing job growth. But it’s easier to clink champagne glasses when you’re not one of the 29 million Americans claiming unemployment benefits today.
“Their celebrations are especially gross given that we could have avoided financial disaster if Trump had just gotten the virus under control. However, instead of taking decisive action, he downplayed the danger, ignored experts, discouraged people from wearing face masks and still hasn’t ramped up testing to the level required. We are seeing the consequences both in lives lost and livelihoods destroyed.”
