STATEMENT: Trump Scapegoats China for Virus and Economic Crash While Millions Flowed to Chinese Companies Through PPP Loans

As reported by the New York Times, Chinese companies received millions of dollars through the Paycheck Protection Program, despite President Donald Trump’s aggressive posturing on China. After repeatedly praising China early on in the pandemic, Trump has insisted on scapegoating them for his own failed pandemic response which has left thousands of Americans dead and millions more struggling to make ends meet.

In response, Protect Our Care’s Coronavirus War Room Director Zac Petkanas released the following statement:

“Donald Trump’s hypocrisy is almost laughable at this point. He lambasts China on a daily basis but allowed millions of taxpayer dollars meant to keep American small businesses afloat to flow into the pockets of Chinese companies.

“Meanwhile, Trump and his congressional allies allowed half the unemployment benefits for hard-working Americans to expire.

“Forget all the tough talk. We know where Trump’s priorities lie –– and it’s not on the side of America’s families who are struggling to keep food on the table and stay healthy in the midst of a global public health crisis.

“Trump would rather prop up Chinese business interests than keep Americans safe, healthy, and prosperous. It’s one more sad example born out of this crisis that showcases this Administration’s absolute disdain for the lives and wellbeing of everyday people.”
