In response to Donald Trump’s promise to “Fire Fauci” at a crowded, maskless super-spreader rally last night, Protect Our Care’s Coronavirus War Room Director Zac Petkanas released the following statement:
“The irony that Donald Trump would make such a blatantly political attack on a decorated career civil servant like Dr. Anthony Fauci at a maskless, crowded super-spreader rally may have been lost on Donald Trump, but it proves his willingness to put politics before people’s health and safety.
“One of Donald Trump’s key tactics during this crisis has been to undermine his own experts, attempting to strong-arm them into falling in line with whatever he thinks makes him look better. The effect has only been to make the pandemic worse.
“Trump’s promise last night to fire Dr. Fauci – the most trusted public health official in the country – exposes that Trump’s failed response to the coronavirus would continue if he were to be re-elected. It should be seen as a warning to the American people: four more years of Trump in the White House means more attacks on science as the death toll and case count mounts.
“Trump’s insistence on putting politics and personal grudges ahead of public health has already had deadly consequences. As we’re bracing against the worst wave of outbreaks yet and record-breaking spikes across the country, those consequences are what Americans will be thinking about at the ballot box.”
