In response to the weekly numbers which show 837,000 Americans filed for first time unemployment on the same day that airlines are moving forward with tens of thousands of layoffs, Protect Our Care’s Coronavirus War Room Zac Petkanas released the following statement:
“As much as Donald Trump and his Administration like to pretend otherwise, we’re still in the depths of a catastrophic economic collapse they created. Today’s unemployment numbers and a massive wave of layoffs are the gut-punch that proves it.
“Six months into this crisis, weekly unemployment numbers are still higher than at any week during the Great Recession and the airline industry is having the worst single day of job loss in its history, as tens of thousands are laid off industry wide. This isn’t to mention the thousands upon thousands of layoffs occurring in other industries over the last 24 hours.
“Instead of acting to save the economy and offer help to the families that desperately need it, Trump is making the crisis worse and is lying about it.
“The only thing that will get the economy back on track is to actually get this pandemic under control. But Donald Trump has proven he’s wholly incapable and uninterested in taking the steps necessary to do that.
“A month before Election Day, it seems he’s determined to force Americans to suffer the consequences of his failures.”
