As President Biden’s American Rescue Plan heads to the Senate, Protect Our Care’s Coronavirus War Room Director Zac Petkanas released the following statement:
“Senate Republicans still have an opportunity to join with Democrats and a vast majority of the American people in their support of President Biden’s American Rescue Plan.
“Doing so would help them avoid the same mistakes their Republican House colleagues just made over the weekend when they committed political suicide by voting against direct checks for their own constituents and billions in funding to distribute vaccines, including the newly-approved, single dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
“But yet again, Mitch McConnell and his Republican conference are determined to oppose the American people – including majorities of Democrats, Independents, and even Republicans – in an effort to score cheap political points to undermine President Biden and prolong the coronavirus crisis
“The American Rescue Plan is designed to fix the dual economic and public health crises facing American families. There’s still time for Senate Republicans to do the right thing and join their Democratic colleagues in supporting funding for direct stimulus checks, reopening schools, extending unemployment insurance, saving small businesses, and preventing layoffs of essential workers like nurses, doctors and EMTs. If they continue their obstruction, they’ll have to answer for why they voted to make the crisis worse.”
