STATEMENT: Student Gets in ‘Good Trouble’ for Exposing Catastrophic Reopening in Georgia Schools as Outbreaks Halt Reopenings Across Country

This week, photos showing packed hallways in a Georgia school with no social distancing measures and close to no mask use went viral. It was later revealed to have suffered an outbreak of COVID-19 among students.

The school initially suspended the student who exposed the photos before quickly backtracking as public backlash against their cover-up attempt grew.

This incident comes after months of Donald Trump downplaying the danger of the virus, lying that children are immune (they’re not), and pushing for states and schools to reopen before it is safe to do so.

In response, Coronavirus War Room Director Zac Petkanas released the following statement:

“Donald Trump’s pandemic response has been such a deadly failure that we now have students getting kicked out of school just for exposing the dangerous truth in an attempt to keep themselves and their friends alive.

“While Trump’s making up lies about kids being immune, schools in Georgia and across the country are ignoring the experts, reopening before it’s safe to do so and then disciplining their own kids for shedding light on what a disaster reopening has been.

“Fortunately, this brave student’s suspension has been lifted after a public outcry. However, it shouldn’t be on students to blow the whistle on irresponsible behavior taken because schools are feeling the pressure from the President to reopen unsafely. Luckily, there are students willing to get in ‘good trouble’ anyway.”
