In response to weekly jobless claims announced today, Protect Our Care’s Coronavirus War Room Spokesperson Bryan Doherty released the following statement:
“These sky high unemployment numbers highlight the urgent need for Congress to pass President Biden’s full plan as quickly as possible. The answer cannot be to do nothing in the face of worse unemployment rates than during the Great Recession.
“But that’s exactly what Republicans are proposing we do: nothing.
“They need to stop trying to sabotage our recovery and help unify the country by passing the incredibly popular American Rescue Plan, which places families front and center. This crucial legislation expands unemployment benefits, boosts direct stimulus checks, increases assistance for people struggling to make rent and mortgage payments, and – most importantly – funds vaccine distribution and a nation-wide testing plan that’ll finally get this pandemic under control.
“Enough with the delays. It’s time to pass Biden’s recovery plan.”
