Protect Our Care’s Coronavirus War Room released the following statement on Senate Republicans’ repeated failure to pass a COVID relief package for American families:
“It has been 152 days since the House of Representatives passed the comprehensive COVID bill, the HEROES Act. Senate Republicans have refused to pass or even negotiate a serious relief bill and the White House has repeatedly walked away from negotiations. In that time, more than 130,000 Americans have died, 6.4 million more have been infected, and roughly 28 million additional people have filed for unemployment. More families have suffered in the aftermath of their months of inaction than did before these COVID relief efforts began.
“Republican Senators have turned their backs on helping Americans through this pandemic – instead they are ramming through an anti health care justice to the Supreme Court who will take away America’s health care in the middle of this crisis.
“After eight months of economic collapse and overwhelming death tolls directly resulting from Donald Trump’s failed leadership, undermining of experts, spread of misinformation, and general disinterest in the pain felt by millions of Americans – people across the country are crying out for help.
“The House of Representatives has never left the negotiating table. It’s time for Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans to drop the demand to replace crucial funding for essential workers with a $150 billion taxpayer giveaway to Wall Street banks and corporations that ship American jobs overseas – and focus on hammering out a commonsense deal.
“Until they do, they will own this crisis and the pain it inflicts on families, plain and simple. And voters won’t forget who abandoned them when they needed relief the most.”
