In response to President-elect Joe Biden announcing he’s asked Dr. Fauci to continue as Director of NIAID, a member of the COVID Team, and as a chief medical advisor, Protect Our Care Chair Leslie Dach released the following statement:
“I worked with Tony every day while I was the HHS Ebola Coordinator and there is no greater public servant. There’s a reason we referred to him regularly as ‘a national treasure.’ We relied on and fully trusted his judgment because we knew he always infused deep knowledge and empathy into his work and spoke truth to power in every conversation. It is clear the American people trust him too — and we are a healthier nation because of it.
“By deciding to keep Dr. Fauci in his current role as America’s most pre-eminent infectious disease expert, President-elect Biden is reaffirming that he will listen to the science and do what’s best for the nation’s health and, therefore, for its economic recovery.
“Dr. Fauci brings with him decades of experience serving presidents of both parties, stewarding the country through some of the most challenging public health events of modern history. It’s the reason the American people have turned to him again and again as the most trusted voice of expertise throughout this crisis.
“Today’s announcement proves that Joe Biden’s approach to the response could not be more different than the failed approach of Donald Trump. Freeing Dr. Fauci to speak the truth — and listening to his advice — is going to save lives.”
