STATEMENT ON UNEMPLOYMENT #s: Trump’s Incompetence Ran Economy Into Ground Like His Failed Atlantic City Casinos

By August 20, 2020No Comments

Today, weekly job numbers showed that the catastrophic economic consequences of Donald Trump’s failed pandemic response continues to dog American families. This week, more than 1.1 million Americans filed for unemployment benefits, bringing the total to more than 57 million claims since the pandemic began.

For months now, Donald Trump and his Republican allies have cut extended unemployment benefits and have not taken necessary action to prevent nationwide evictions. As a result, families seeking benefits are left with less than at any other point in this crisis.

In response, Protect Our Care’s Coronavirus War Room Director Zac Petkanas released the following statement:

“Donald Trump has treated the economy like one of his Atlantic City casinos and driven it straight into the ground with his incompetence and failed leadership.

“Another week brought yet another million Americans losing their jobs. The only reason: Donald Trump has utterly failed to get the virus under control.

“While the rest of the world gets back to business as usual, Trump has made the situation worse by downplaying the danger of the disease, causing outbreaks by states and schools to reopen before it’s safe to do so, and musing about QAnon at press briefings instead of setting up an effective national testing effort.

“Instead of moving us toward recovery, Trump’s botched response has us locked in the depths of economic catastrophe. And families have less help than ever before because Trump and his Republican allies are cutting unemployment benefits and allowing evictions to go ahead in the middle of this crisis.

“There’s no end in sight and the American people know Donald Trump is to blame”
