In response to the news that GSA Administrator Emily Murphy has sent a letter of ascertainment which allows the Biden transition effort to move forward, Protect Our Care’s Coronavirus War Room Director Zac Petkanas released the following statement:
“After weeks of obstruction, the GSA has finally done the right thing and certified the undeniable fact that President-elect Joe Biden won this election in a landslide. Their ascertainment tonight will finally allow the incoming Biden Administration to begin effectively preparing their pandemic response.
“Unfortunately, Mitch McConnell and the rest of the Republican Party are still doing everything in their power to undermine the incoming Biden Administration.
“McConnell’s refusal to act on a meaningful COVID relief package is an unabashed effort to sabotage the incoming Biden Administration by leaving them with the worst economic and public health crises imaginable. By blocking real relief efforts, he is increasing the likelihood of a double dip recession that will do long term damage to the economy of our nation.
“He must work with Speaker Pelosi and Senator Schumer to pass an economic stimulus that helps the economy recovery and grow, provides support for people who are struggling to pay their bills because they lost their job and to make sure that everyone has access to a coronavirus vaccine with no out-of-pocket cost.
“Any further delay should be seen for what it is: a deliberate attempt to hurt the economy ahead of a Biden presidency.”
