In response to the news that President Joe Biden has signed Day One executive orders regarding the coronavirus pandemic response, Protect Our Care’s Coronavirus War Room Director Zac Petkanas released the following statement:
“Tonight’s executive orders are the first step of a long process to getting this virus under control and helping the country recover from the worst dual public health and economic crisis imaginable.
“Hours into his tenure, President Joe Biden is using every tool available to him to address the disaster left behind by Donald Trump. By issuing a mask-mandate on federal property and inter-state travel and reversing Trump’s reckless decision to leave the World Health Organization, Biden is taking tangible steps to contain the crisis and signalling how seriously he will take the pandemic. Biden is also starting the process of delivering help to struggling families by extending the federal eviction moratorium and postponing student loan payments.
“These executive orders show that getting the federal pandemic response back on target is a top priority for the Biden administration. It is by far the biggest, most pressing challenge facing the country – only made worse by the crises left behind by the Trump Administration – but the groundwork is being laid to finally tackle it.
