Washington, DC – Ahead of the country reaching the somber reality of a million lives lost to COVID-19, Republicans continue to play politics with people’s lives, refusing to fund the government’s efforts to combat the pandemic. In response, Coronavirus War Room Director Nicole Haley said the following:
“Republicans remain dead set on prolonging the pandemic for one reason and one reason only: to hurt President Biden politically. They would love nothing more than to sabotage any effort to mitigate the effects of COVID-19 if it means scoring political points. From spreading misinformation, voting against vaccine distribution, and promoting vaccine hesitancy, Republicans remain determined to use any tool at their disposal to make sure the pandemic lasts as long as possible. Their latest tool is blocking crucial funding requested by the Biden administration over the past several months.
Many Americans are already feeling the effects of the lack of funding. Without it, we will lose access to treatments, tests, vaccines, and boosters. As cases rise around the country, lack of research into new variants and more powerful vaccines could leave us unprepared for what comes next.
Over the past two years, Republicans have shown that they don’t care about the lives and the health of their constituents. But as we approach this somber milestone, they must join with their Democratic colleagues and swiftly approve the funding for the good of all Americans.”
