In response to Vice President Mike Pence announcing he will continue his campaign schedule despite the second White House outbreak, Protect Our Care’s Coronavirus War Room Director Zac Petkanas issued the following statement:
“Campaign events are not essential activities. After admitting to coming in close contact with one of his five aides infected during the latest White House outbreak, it is beyond dangerous and irresponsible for Vice President Pence to forge ahead with any more mask-free, crowded rallies when he should be in quarantine.
“This is outrageous. As the nation suffers record infections, surging hospitalizations and skyrocketing deaths, we need a White House that takes decisive action to stop the virus, not one that actively spreads it further.
“Unfortunately, the Trump administration has never once put public health over their own perceived political benefit during the entirety of this pandemic. At every turn they’ve made things worse by taking actions like downplaying the danger, ignoring experts, rushing states to reopen prematurely and mocking those who wear masks.
“Pence’s insistence on continuing to expose thousands of Americans to a killer virus is the latest reckless decision and perfectly encapsulates why the United States leads the world in deaths and cases under the White House’s failed leadership.”
