President Biden Announces Additional Efforts to Keep Families Safe In the Wake of the Omicron Variant
Washington, DC — According to the Associated Press, the Biden administration will announce that Americans with private health insurance will be able to access free at-home over-the-counter COVID-19 tests beginning on January 15. Each month, individuals with insurance will be able to get up to eight over-the-counter tests for free. The White House also announced that insurance companies are setting up systems to provide free tests to consumers up front without requiring reimbursement. The announcement comes after the Biden administration purchased 500 million free rapid tests to send to American families. In response, Protect Our Care Chair Leslie Dach issued the following statement:
“In the face of the Omicron surge, President Biden has moved decisively to deliver booster shots, expand access to new treatments, and deliver free at-home testing to families. Expanding access to testing will help keep schools and workplaces open and limit the spread of the virus. President Biden is listening to the scientists and using every tool available to protect public health and keep the economy strong. While President Biden fights tirelessly to control this pandemic, Republicans are continuing to attack science, spread disinformation, and undermine vaccinations and other safety measures — harming the economy and prolonging this pandemic.”
