US Continues to Suffer Worst Death Toll in the World Due to Trump Admin’s Failure to Address Crisis
In light of today’s devastating milestone of 200,000 deaths resulting from the coronavirus pandemic, Protect Our Care’s Coronavirus War Room released the following statement:
“The United States continues to lead the world in the most calamitous way: 200,000 deaths. It’s an almost unspeakable tragedy only made worse by the fact that it was preventable.
“At every turn, Trump deliberately misled the American people about the danger of the virus, lied about the actions he was taking in response and undermined his own experts begging to ramp up testing, secure PPE and encourage the use of face masks.
“In choosing this path, Trump allowed the gut-wrenching loss of parents, grandparents, children, friends, neighbors, and loved ones in every corner of this country. He affirmed that he’s willing to place his own political interests ahead of the health of every American and the human cost of this pandemic.
“Let’s be clear: President Trump abandoned this country when he let two hundred thousand people perish. We will not forget this failure of leadership and will hold him accountable.”
The Coronavirus War Room also released a video highlighting the stories of just a few of those who’ve lost loved ones, responding to the newly reported quotes proving Donald Trump deliberately misled the American people by downplaying the severity of the crisis.

Four people appear in the video to tell their stories and experiences: Kristin Urquiza, who lost her father Mark Urquiza; Rosie Davis, who lost her mother Mary Castro; Marco Reyes, who lost his father; and Fiana Garza Tulip, who lost her mother.
Full transcript:
Rosie Davis: My name is Rosie Davis, and I lost my mother, Mary Castro, to COVID-19 on May 17th.
Marco Reyes: My name is Marco Reyes. I’m from Miami, Florida. And on September 4th, I lost my father to COVID-19.
Fiana Garza Tulip: My name is Fiana Garza Tulip. My mom died of COVID-19 on July 4th.
Kristin Urquiza: My name is Kristin. I lost my dad, Mark Urquiza, to COVID-19 on June 30th.
Fiana: This past week we heard tapes that revealed the president lied about the pandemic that has ravaged America on his watch.
Kristin: “‘I wanted to always play it down.’”
Trump on Woodward tapes: “I still like playing it down, because I don’t want to create a panic.”
Rosie: Donald Trump knew back in January how deadly this virus was, and yet he deliberately downplayed the virus.
Marco: I cannot believe that this man holds the office of President of the United States. Yet, he cares very little or nothing at all about the American people and how many lives we lost because of this virus.
Fiona: Trump’s lies sabotaged efforts to contain the coronavirus almost certainly leading to many more deaths than it would have caused under a minimally competent leader.
Rosie: He continues to have careless rallies where there’s no social distancing or no mask wearing. It’s pretty simple, you lead by example.
Kristin: He failed to do his fundamental job of keeping us safe, and he failed to do that on purpose. This is inexcusable to the more than six million people who have contracted this virus and the 200,000 people that are no longer with us today because of his lies.
Fiona: Even after more than three and a half numbing years is the deliberate willful nature of the lies.
Rosie: Donald Trump has proven to us over and over that he is just not the person that we need to protect or lead our country.
Marco: For him to downplay it, for him not to want to panic the American people, it’s totally wrong. It’s immoral and he should not hold this office.
Kristin: Donald Trump is unfit and needs to be voted out his November.
Trump on Woodward tapes: “I wanted to always play it down.”
