Elephant Not in the Room: Congressional GOP’s Vote Against American Rescue Plan Looms Large During White House Celebration As Nation Celebrates Direct Checks, Shots in Arms, Health Care Benefits

In response to Congressional Republicans’ absence from today’s celebration ceremony for the signing of the American Rescue Plan, Protect Our Care’s Coronavirus War Room Director Zac Petkanas released the following statement:

“There’s a reason you don’t see a single Republican lawmaker at today’s White House celebration for the American Rescue Plan: every single one of them voted against $1,400 checks, faster vaccine distribution, lower health care costs, faster school reopening, help for small businesses and aid for essential workers, among other overwhelmingly popular provisions found in the landmark bill.

“Even though a majority of Republican voters support the American Rescue Plan, Republicans in Congress still couldn’t bring themselves to vote for legislation that would get direct relief to their constituents.

“Republicans’ absence from today’s celebration at the White House is yet another reminder of their refusal to support getting Americans the help they need during this crisis. As Americans celebrate what this historic bill will do for their lives, they won’t soon forget who voted against it.”
