COVID-19 Cases Down in All 50 States As President Biden Turns U.S. Vaccine Program Into Global Leader

Yesterday President Biden announced that coronavirus cases are down in all 50 states for the first time since the pandemic began. This is coupled with the news that 60% of Americans have received at least one shot of the vaccine, putting the country well on it’s way of meeting President Biden’s goal of 70% of Americans receiving at least one vaccine dose by July 4th. 

 

These announcements yesterday make clear that President Biden’s commitment to turning around the United States’s vaccine program and rigorous recovery effort is having a lasting impact in the fight to defeat the pandemic. As the vaccine effort at home goes full-steam ahead, President Biden has put the U.S. on a path to becoming a global vaccine leader as he announces plans to significantly ramp up vaccine sharing with the global community, making good on his promise of “ending the pandemic everywhere.”

Washington Post: Biden Says Coronavirus Cases Down In All States As He Announces More U.S. Sharing of Vaccines. “President Biden said Monday that the number of coronavirus cases are down in all 50 states for the first time since the pandemic began as he announced plans for the United States to share more U.S.-approved coronavirus vaccines abroad with the goal of ‘ending the pandemic everywhere.’” [Washington Post, 5/17/21]

 

CNN: About 60% Of Americans 18 and Older Have Had at Least One Dose of COVID-19 Vaccine. “The US has reached a ‘landmark day’ in the Covid-19 pandemic as 60% of American adults have gotten at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, the director of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said. In addition, more than 4.1 million young people ages 12 to 17 have received their first dose, Dr. Rochelle Walensky said.” [CNN, 5/18/21]

 

AP News: Biden Boosting World Vaccine Sharing Commitment to 80m Doses. “President Joe Biden said Monday that the U.S. will share an additional 20 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines with the world in the coming six weeks as domestic demand for shots drops and global disparities in distribution have grown more evident…The announcement comes on top of the Biden’s administration’s prior commitment to share about 60 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine, which is not yet authorized for use in the U.S., by the end of June. The AstraZeneca doses will be available to ship once they clear a safety review by the Food and Drug Administration.” [AP News, 5/18/21]
