In response to the final House vote on the American Rescue Plan, Protect Our Care’s Coronavirus War Room Director Zac Petkanas released the following statement:
“With the passage of the American Rescue Plan in the House, Democrats have once again put us one step closer to getting the country out of this crisis while Republicans doubled down on their opposition to direct checks and health care benefits for Americans.”
“This bill, which now heads to President Biden’s desk, offers badly needed investments to boost the economy back past pre-pandemic levels with direct stimulus checks, funding for national testing and vaccine distribution, lower health care costs, expanded unemployment insurance, state and local aid to keep essential workers like nurses, firefighters and EMTs on the job and assistance for families struggling to make rent and mortgage payments.
“House Republicans were given one last opportunity to do the right thing by their constituents and vote for the bill, but unsurprisingly they failed miserably and made clear they’d rather play politics than help frontline workers like teachers, firefighters and health care workers get the relief they need.”
