In response to the Senate passing President Biden’s American Rescue Plan, Protect Our Care’s Coronavirus War Room Director Zac Petkanas released the following statement:
“Today’s passage of the American Rescue Plan means that families and communities will soon get the much needed relief they need during this crisis.
“This bill, which now heads back to the House, offers badly needed investments to boost the economy back past pre-pandemic levels with direct stimulus checks, funding for a national testing and vaccine distribution, lower health care costs, expanded unemployment insurance, state and local aid to keep essential workers like nurses, firefighters and EMTs on the job and assistance for families struggling to make rent and mortgage payments.
“Unlike Senate Democrats who made clear their desire to get direct relief to the American people as quickly as possible, Senate Republicans decided that playing political games was more important than helping their constituents.
“Every Senate Republican will now have to answer to voters for why they voted against direct checks and vaccine distribution funding, undermining the health and economic well being of Americans during the worst public health crisis in a generation.”
