Monmouth: 68 Percent of Americans Support Keeping $1,400 Relief Checks as Part of the ARP

New polling this week from the Kaiser Family Foundation, Monmouth University, Public Policy Polling and Morning Consult continues to show widespread bipartisan support from the majority of Americans for the American Rescue Plan and its key provisions. 

  • Kaiser Family Foundation: Large Majorities Support The Health Care Provisions In The American Rescue Plan. “Most adults, including majorities of Democrats and independents and large shares of Republicans, support provisions included in the COVID-19 relief bill which would expand federal subsidies for people who purchase their own health insurance plans (69%) and which would provide additional federal funding to states that have not yet expanded their Medicaid program if those states expand Medicaid to cover more low-income adults (76%).” [Kaiser Family Foundation, 3/3/21
  • Kaiser Family Foundation: 69 Percent Of Americans Support Expanding Federal Subsidies For People Who Purchase Their Own Health Insurance Plans, Including 71 Percent of Independents And 55 Percent of Republicans. “A majority of the public, including at least half of Republicans, approve two provisions currently included in the COVID-19 relief bill aimed at expanding health insurance coverage for Americans. About seven in ten adults (69%), including majorities of Democrats (79%), independents (71%) and Republicans (55%) say they support expanding federal subsidies for people who purchase their own health insurance plans.” [Kaiser Family Foundation, 3/3/21
  • Kaiser Family Foundation: About 75 Percent Of Americans Support Providing Additional Federal Funding To States That Have Not Yet Expanded Their Medicaid Program If The States Expand Medicaid To Cover More Low-Income Adults.About three in four adults support another provision which would provide additional federal funding to states that have not yet expanded their Medicaid program if those states expand Medicaid to cover more low-income adults. Large majorities of Democrats (93%) and independents (78%) and half of Republicans support this provision. Notably, seven in ten adults (71%) living in states that have not expanded their Medicaid program support the proposal to provide more federal funding to those states if they expand Medicaid to cover more low-income adults.[Kaiser Family Foundation, 3/3/21
  • Monmouth: 68 Percent Of Americans Said The $1,400 Stimulus Checks Should Remain. “More than two-thirds of Americans (68%) said that $1,400 stimulus checks should remain in the stimulus package even if it meant the bill had no support from the opposite party. Democrats have proposed a $1.9 trillion relief package that includes $1,400 stimulus checks; some Republicans have complained that that amount for checks, and the total cost of the bill, are too large. However, 53% of Republicans polled, agreed that $1,400 direct payments should be left untouched in the bill. Abou two-thirds (65%) of independents and 85% of Democrats agreed. Overall, 53% of Americans said $1,400 checks to the public are about the correct amount; 28% of the public would like to see larger payments issued, while 14% think the amount should be reduced.” [USA Today, 3/3/21]
  • Monmouth: 62 Percent Of Americans Support The American Rescue Plan. “Just over 6 in 10 (62%) Americans support the $1.9 trillion Covid stimulus package currently making its way through Congress, while 34% oppose it. Strong support registers at 35% of the public while strong opposition stands at 23%. Overall support for the plan comes from 92% of Democrats and 56% of independents, but just 33% of Republicans.” [Monmouth University, 3/3/21]
  • Monmouth: 67 Percent Of Americans Support Increasing Additional Unemployment Benefits From $300 To $400 And Extending Them Through The Summer. “Another aspect of the stimulus plan – increasing additional unemployment benefits from $300 to $400 per week and extending them through the summer – receives support from 67% of Americans. Just 30% are opposed to an extension of jobless aid.” [Monmouth University, 3/3/21]
  • Morning Consult: 77 Percent Of Voters And 59 Percent Of Republicans Said They Supported The Key Provisions Of The American Rescue Plan. “In the new survey, conducted Feb. 26 to March 1, 77 percent of all voters and 59 percent of Republicans said they supported the measure which provides direct payments to some Americans, extends enhanced unemployment benefits through July and provides funding for state and local governments as well as K-12 schools and universities.” [Morning Consult, 3/3/21]
  • Public Policy Polling: 74 Percent Of American Voters Support The ARP Provision To Provide $1,400 Relief Checks For Middle Income And Working Class Families, Including 61 Percent Of Republicans And 64 Percent Of Independents/Other Party. “74% support the plan’s $1,400 relief checks for middle income and working families who need it the most, with just 18% opposed. Support includes 52% of Trump voters and 61% among Republicans.” 64% of those who identify as Independent/Other party also support this provision. [PPP poll for Protect Our Care, 3/2/21]
  • Public Policy Polling: 77 Percent Of Americans Support The ARP Provision To Lower Healthcare Costs For People Who Lost Their Coverage When They Lost Their Job Due To The Coronavirus, Including 58 Percent Of Republicans. “77% of voters support the American Rescue Plan’s provision to lower healthcare costs for people who lost their healthcare coverage when they lost their job during the pandemic. Just 14% oppose this. Support includes 56% among Trump voters and 58% among Republicans.” 72% of those who identify as Independent/Other party also support this provision.   • Public Policy Polling: 72 Percent Of Americans Support The ARP Provision To Cap Insurance Premiums For Americans, Including 57 Percent of Republicans. “72% support the provision to cap insurance premiums for millions of Americans so none pay more than 9% of their income to get the health insurance they need.   • Public Policy Polling: 71 Percent Of Americans Support The ARP Provision To Include New Funding To Surge Vaccine Distribution And COVID Testing, Including 72 Percent Of People Over 65. “71% support the provision including new funding to surge vaccine distribution and COVID testing, while only 19% oppose it. Support includes 51% of Republicans and 72% among people over 65.” 65% of those who identify as Independent/Other party also support this provision. [PPP poll for Protect Our Care, 3/2/21]
  • Public Policy Polling: A Plurality Of Voters Say That If Their Members Of Congress Were To Vote Against The ARP They Would Be Less Likely To Vote For Them In 2022, Including 21 Percent Of Republicans. “A plurality (45%) of voters also say that if their members of Congress were to vote against the American Rescue Plan, they would be less likely to vote for them in the next election including 21% of Republicans being less likely to support re-election for their Member of Congress. Just 22% of voters say they would be more likely to vote for their members of Congress if they voted against the Plan.” [PPP poll for Protect Our Care, 3/2/21]
  • Public Policy Polling: The Poll Found That The American Rescue Plan Was More Popular Than Puppies, With 55 Percent Of Voters Saying They Would Prefer The Passage Of The ARP To Getting A Puppy. “A Public Policy Polling survey, released Tuesday, found widespread support for the American Rescue Plan’s major provisions — $1,400 checks for most Americans (supported by 74%), more vaccines and coronavirus tests (71% support), and improving health care access for those who lost their jobs in the pandemic (77% backing). In the poll, registered voters were also asked: ‘Which would you rather have: the American Rescue Plan to respond to the pandemic as described earlier in this survey, or a puppy?’ A 55% majority said they’d rather have the $1.9 trillion relief bill. Just 23% preferred to have a puppy. The remaining 21% said they were unsure.” [American Independent, 3/2/21]
