On the last full day of the Trump Administration, Protect Our Care’s Coronavirus War Room Director Zac Petkanas released the following statement:
“On this last full day of Donald Trump’s tenure as President of the United States, roughly 4,000 Americans will die, 123,000 will be hospitalized, and 207,000 more will get sick as a direct result of his failure and callous indifference.
“There are many stains on Donald Trump’s legacy: he’s the only president to be impeached twice, still under threat of conviction for inciting a violent insurrection against his own country and democracy itself at the Capitol; we’ll remember the pain and suffering that resulted from his racist child separation policy; not to mention countless other atrocious actions he and his administration took. The damage Donald Trump did to this country in four short years can’t be overstated.
“But one of the most lasting, and certainly the most deadly, legacies will be that of death, illness, and hardship that resulted from his complete failure to confront the pandemic. At every turn, Donald Trump blatantly lied to the American people despite knowing the danger they faced, routinely downplayed the severity of the crisis, and played political games with people’s lives. His actions created massive catastrophes that he is now dumping on President-elect Joe Biden’s doorstep.
“Trump is personally responsible for hundreds of thousands of needlessly dead Americans. We should never – and hopefully will never – forget the price this country paid for his selfishness and inability to do the job when leadership was desperately needed.”
