In response to weekly state jobless claims spiking to 965,000 last week, Protect Our Care’s Coronavirus War Room Director Zac Petkanas released the following statement:
“The economic catastrophe left by the failed, outgoing Trump Administration is going to have a lasting impact on families across the country.
“For the better part of a year, we have experienced record levels of unemployment that rival the worst weeks of the Great Recession. But the only response from the Trump Administration and Congressional Republicans has been to delay relief packages and nickel and dime the amount of support struggling families received.
“The failure to get the dueling public health and economic catastrophes under control has thrown Americans into a crisis and left them to fend for themselves. At every turn, decisions were made by Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell that only served to leave the worst possible situation on President-elect Biden’s doorstep.
“We must immediately move on President-elect Biden’s comprehensive relief package. It will at least be a first step in doing the long, difficult work of fixing the mess left by an incompetent and indifferent Donald Trump.”
