STATEMENT: GSA Administrator Refuses to Brief Congress Until Next Week, Doubles Down on Politically-Motivated Obstruction of Biden Transition Effort

In response to GSA Administrator Emily Murphy’s refusal to personally address Congressional leaders as they requested and delaying any briefing until next week, Protect Our Care’s Coronavirus War Room Director Zac Petkanas released the following statement:

“By refusing to brief Congressional leaders today as they requested, GSA Administrator Emily Murphy is unsurprisingly doubling down on her politically-motivated obstruction of President-elect Joe Biden’s transition effort in the middle of a killer pandemic. It’s a shameless attempt to avoid accountability for her deadly decision to put loyalty to Donald Trump ahead of her duty to the American people.

“The longer she prevents the transition from moving forward with its planning to combat the worsening coronavirus crisis, the more Americans will die.

“Let’s be clear: it is crucial that the incoming Biden Administration is able to confront the crisis on day one of their tenure. To do that, they need access to the key officials, materials, documents, and lines of communication right now. Not next week or next month – right now. Murphy is personally preventing them from beginning preparations to distribute a potentially-life saving vaccine, ramp up a national testing infrastructure, and coordinate with state, local, and international leaders to build the competent pandemic response that the Trump Administration has failed to provide.

“It’s beyond time for her to do the right thing, to certify the undisputable election results, and to face accountability for her obstruction. If she doesn’t, then these potential unnecessary deaths will be on her hands.”
