In response to reports that GSA Administrator Emily Murphy feels she’s in a “no-win situation” as she continues her unprecedented obstruction of Joe Biden’s transition efforts, Protect Our Care’s Coronavirus War Room Director Zac Petkanas released the following statement:
“It is clear that Joe Biden has been elected the next President of the United States. States are certifying results, the race has been independently called, and no honest person can dispute the outcome.
“However, GSA Administrator Emily Murphy’s insistence on carrying water for Donald Trump’s delusion and refusal to certify Joe Biden as president-elect means more people will die in the middle of a raging pandemic.
“There is no time for a personal pity party. Hospitals are overflowing, death rates are breaking records, and the virus is spreading uncontrollably. As winter wears on, the situation is only going to get worse and her obstruction will cause irreparable harm in the Biden Administration’s ability to address the crisis on day one.
“Murphy’s duty to the American people – and our health and safety – is clear. The oath she took was to serve the constitution, not Donald Trump or her own career.
“She has no excuse to block the transition. This is not 2000, where a recount was warranted and the election hinged on just a few hundred votes. President-elect Joe Biden was elected in a landslide, both in the popular vote and in the Electoral College. For Murphy to compare the two situations is laughable.
“It’s beyond time for her to reverse course and do the right thing by certifying President-elect Joe Biden’s election and letting the transition move forward.”
