In response to reports that the Trump-appointed GSA Administrator Emily Murphy is refusing to accept the results of the election and halting the Biden transition team’s work, Protect Our Care’s Coronavirus War Room Director Zac Petkanas released the following statement:
“Let’s be clear: this is sabotage.
“The GSA is breaking 60 years of precedent by refusing to officially recognize the apparent winner in the presidential election, even though the race has been independently called for President-elect Joe Biden.
“By doing so, the Trump Administration is intentionally blocking the Biden transition team from fully preparing to take over the coronavirus response in less than 10 weeks.
“Without the greenlight from the GSA, Biden officials are prevented from fully working with key Administration officials at agencies like the CDC and FDA tasked with getting the virus under control.
“This is outrageous and dangerous. With cases, hospitalizations, and deaths all skyrocketing, the decision to once again put politics ahead of public health will cost American lives.
“Instead of allowing Trump to bring the country down with him, it’s crucial that the GSA reverse course and do the right thing by allowing the Biden transition to move forward with its planning to crush the virus on January 20.”
