The Department of Health said the state’s confirmed and probable cases rose by 1,265 to 90,145. This was the state’s biggest total one day increase since it reported 1,180 new probable and confirmed cases on Sept. 11. - “The Oct. 4 report to Idaho appears to be the first time the task force has explicitly recommended closing schools: ‘Recommend change to online K-12 classes in counties and metro areas with elevated test positivity and incidence among school age children and increasing hospital utilization,’ the White House advised, noting that outbreaks in 10 Idaho counties may be related to school openings. On October 7, Iowa Admitted A Record Number Of Coronavirus Patients To The Hospital, And Reported The Highest Number Of Hospitalized Patients Since The Pandemic Began.
- “State data shows hospitalizations are spiking in Iowa again. There were 97 patients admitted to hospitals in the last 24 hours, up from 61 the previous day and the highest total the state has reported. Kansas
Kansas Reported, On Average, 11 Percent More Hospitalizations Per Day In The Week Ending October 7 Than During The Prior Week.
- “The state Department of Health and Environment reported that had another 1,244 new confirmed and probable coronavirus cases since Monday, an increase of 2%, to bring the pandemic total to 63, 952. The state averaged 600 new cases a day during the seven-day period ending Wednesday. The health department also reported 85 new coronavirus-related hospitalizations since Monday, an increase of 2.8% for a pandemic total of 3,121. The state averaged 29.14 new hospitalizations a day for the seven days ending Wednesday, nearly 11% higher than the previous record of 26.29 for the seven days ending Monday.” [Associated Press, 10/7/20]
Missouri
On October 8, Missouri Reported The Highest Number Of Hospitalizations Since The Pandemic Began, And A Spike Of More Than 1,500 Cases.
- “Missouri on [October 8] reported Thursday an increase of more than 1,500 confirmed COVID-19 cases and the highest number of hospitalizations for confirmed or suspected cases since the pandemic began. Data from the Missouri Department of Health and Human Services showed a total of 137,156 confirmed cases and 2,259 deaths since March. That was 1,505 more cases and 23 more deaths than reported Wednesday. The department also reported 1,344 Missourians were hospitalized with confirmed or suspected COVID-19 cases on Wednesday — up from 1,241 the previous day. South Dakota Is Reporting Nearly 400 New Cases Of Coronavirus Per 100,000 People.
- “South Dakota has retaken the top spot for most COVID-19 cases per 100,000 people, according to the New York Times. The state went from No. 2 to No. 1, passing North Dakota, for the coronavirus case trend data from the past seven days. South Dakota was also home to the most cases per 100,000 people in early September. South Dakota has reported 3,517 cases in the past seven days ending Oct. 7 — 398 per 100,000 people. Wisconsin
On October 7, Wisconsin Set A Seven-Day Record For COVID-19 Deaths.
- “In Wisconsin, which set a seven-day record for fatalities, indoor bars and restaurants were capped at 25% of capacity starting Thursday. The state is struggling with some of the worst COVID-19 outbreaks in the country, and Gov. Tony Evers, a Democrat, ordered the limits despite repeated legal challenges from Republicans to such measures. ‘We’re in a crisis right now and need to immediately change our behavior to save lives,” said Evers. “There’s no other way to put it, we are overwhelmed.’” [USA Today, 10/7/20]
