Today, House Democrats, in an emergency return from recess, passed a bill providing $25 billion to save the Postal Service from being dismantled by Donald Trump and his mega-donor Postmaster General Louis DeJoy to help him rig the election.
In response, Protect Our Care’s Coronavirus War Room Director Zac Petkanas released the following statement:
“Today, House Democrats took a key step in protecting the Postal Service from Donald Trump’s politically motivated attacks intended to help him rig the election this November.
“Trump knows that millions of people are relying on the Postal Service to mail in their ballots during a dangerous pandemic – which his botched response has made worse as he downplays the crisis and ignores the warnings of experts. That’s why his attack on America’s mail service isn’t just an attack on an institution enshrined in the constitution – but on democracy itself.
“However, he doesn’t seem to care that by exploiting this health crisis of his own making, he’s denying millions the right to vote – and forcing seniors, veterans, and rural Americans waiting on delayed prescriptions and social security checks to be collateral damage.
“Unfortunately, there’s every indication that Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans will kill the bill or Trump will issue a veto – solidifying their unholy partnership in attempting to steal the election and attack an institution Americans depend on. This development comes as no surprise, given how much Trump’s allies fawned over Trump mega-donor DeJoy in his hearing yesterday.”
