In Friday’s Senate hearing, Postmaster General Louis DeJoy was completely uncooperative by repeatedly refusing to address the halting problems caused by his efforts to dismantle the Postal Service or reverse the actions he’s already taken.
DeJoy did admit, however, that he did no analysis of how his actions would negatively impact seniors, veterans, and vulnerable populations across the country who are struggling to get by in the middle of a global pandemic.
In response, Protect Our Care’s Coronavirus War Room Director Zac Petkanas released the following statement:
“Postmaster Dejoy must be tired after carrying all that water for Trump’s reelection on national television.
“Throughout the hearing, DeJoy shrugged off the very real concerns of Americans who are experiencing the harm caused by his efforts to dismantle the Postal Service months before an election where vote-by-mail will play a huge role given the pandemic.
“He openly dismissed and disputed reports from his own employees blowing the whistle about a sudden slowdown in service that began shortly after his tenure commenced. He refused to restore the sorting machines he’s removed that will impact mail-in ballots arriving on time. And he admitted he did no analysis of how his actions would impact seniors, veterans and our troops who will be left without medications and needed supplies.
“Let’s be clear: veterans, seniors, service members and voters are being intentionally hung out to dry as a direct result of Trump’s cynical ploy to rig an election by taking advantage of a pandemic his botched response made worse.
“And the Postmaster had no other answer other than to run the full Trump defense by obfuscating and denying that anything was wrong.”
