STATEMENT ON PA EVENT: Trump Hasn’t Learned From the Blood On His Hands

By August 21, 2020No Comments

Following Donald Trump’s, at times incomprehensible, campaign speech in Pennsylvania today, Protect Our Care’s Coronavirus War Room Director Zac Petkanas released the following statement:

“Here we go again. In Pennsylvania today, Donald Trump went back at it, doubling down on his militant push to reopen even as the virus surges across the country. Let’s be clear: people are dying because of that attitude.

“He points fingers and mocks governors, like Pennsylvania’s Tom Wolf, struggling to keep their citizens alive, while he makes matters worse at every turn by undermining his own experts, shutting down plans for a national testing program, and routinely downplaying the danger of the virus.

“In his speech today, Trump claimed to care about people’s mental health being affected by shutdowns but refused to address the pain of tens of thousands of Americans who are losing loved ones because of his botched pandemic response and lack of leadership throughout this crisis.

“Nor does he address the anxiety and anger of those dealing with the outbreaks popping up in K-12 schools, the colleges shutting down days after restarting classes, and the tragic stories of those like Kristin Urquiza, who lost her father because Donald Trump lied about it being safe to reopen.

“Every place that has followed the President’s lead and rushed ahead to reopen before it’s safe is seeing the deadly consequences. By doubling down on that strategy today, Trump has shown he hasn’t learned a single lesson from the blood on his hands.”
