STATEMENT: College Football Calls Timeout On Season Because Trump Fumbled Away Pandemic Response

Today, Donald Trump publicly urged college football to proceed as scheduled, as reports circulate that the Big 10, a heartland institution, is expected to suspend the football season citing concerns about the ongoing pandemic.

In response, Protect Our Care’s Coronavirus War Room Director Zac Petkanas released the following statement:

“Donald Trump and his Republican allies are crying foul over college football calling a timeout for the foreseeable future. After a review of the play, there will be no Big Ten football because Donald Trump fumbled his pandemic response and then punted away any responsibility.

“In all seriousness, Donald Trump is the sole reason college football can’t be safely played this year. He’s spent months downplaying the danger of the virus, publicly undermining his own experts, and pushing states and schools to reopen before it is safe to do so.

“The United States continues to have the worst outbreak of coronavirus in the world, with over 5 million cases and 160,000 Americans dead. Schools that are reopening too soon are experiencing outbreaks and having to shutter again. All of this is happening because at every turn, Donald Trump’s failures have actively made the pandemic worse.

“If you’re looking for someone to blame for college football and any other aspect of life not being able to return to normal, look no further than this White House.”
