This morning, the Bureau of Labor Statistics released the July jobs report which shows unemployment remains in double digits, a rate still higher than the Great Recession.
It marks the fifth jobs report since April where unemployment rates remain in double digits and after two months of sluggish growth, the pace of hiring slowed even further in July.
In response, Protect Our Care’s Coronavirus War Room Director Zac Petkanas released the following statement:
“Every month since the start of this pandemic, we’ve woken up to see a painful jobs report. The continued double-digit unemployment numbers — worse than the Great Recession — and painfully slow crawl back are a direct result of Donald Trump’s abject failure to get this virus under control.
“Trump fumbled the ball at the beginning of the crisis and at every turn has made the situation worse. He continues to downplay the danger of the virus, undermining and mocking the experts, and impeding any action that would help us stop the spread of the disease and get things safely back to normal.
“Let there be no doubt, Trump owns this catastrophic economic collapse. And he’s directly to blame for the horrific situation facing families struggling to make ends meet.”
Bottom line from employment report: After 2 mths of decent improvement, the pace of hiring slowed meaningfully in July. Until the virus is contained, expect more of same. pic.twitter.com/ySPFjIJ3dM
