In Statement, Protect Our Care’s Coronavirus War Room Director Zac Petkanas Says to Mitch McConnell: “The coronavirus hasn’t paused and we can’t afford a pause in responding to it.”

Protect Our Care’s Coronavirus War Room Director Zac Petkanas issued the following statement in support of the Heroes Act:

“Donald Trump’s uninformed and erratic decision-making in responding to the coronavirus has devastated America. As a direct result of his lack of leadership, 36 million people have lost their jobs and the United States leads the world in confirmed coronavirus cases and deaths.

“In order for the country to move past the pandemic, we need the policies, funding and leadership displayed in the Heroes Act that fills the void left by the White House.

“This legislation does exactly what experts say we need to do to save lives and reopen our country. It will put us on the path to safely reopening by finally making the necessary investments in testing, tracing, treatment and social distancing. It provides much-needed relief to the millions of Americans who are struggling through no fault of their own. And it ensures that the heroes on the frontlines are supported in order to continue the critical roles they play in fighting to keep us safe.

“And while nearly every expert agrees these policies and resources are necessary as this pandemic continues to rage across the country, Mitch McConnell says we need a pause in coronavirus relief packages. Senator McConnell, the coronavirus hasn’t paused and we can’t afford a pause in responding to it.

“The American people want the science-based, comprehensive solutions to the coronavirus that the Heroes Act addresses — and they want it now. Democrats in the House have already passed this legislation that will save lives and livelihoods. Republicans have supported the four previous coronavirus packages, and it’s now time for them to do what’s right and support the Heroes Act, too.”
