Washington, DC – The April jobs report released today shows that last month, the economy added 428,000 jobs and unemployment remains low at 3.6%. In response, Coronavirus War Room Director Nicole Haley said the following:
“Thanks to the hard work of the Biden administration and Democrats, the economy continues to add more jobs and the unemployment rate remains low. 2021’s American Rescue Plan provided direct stimulus checks, housing assistance and monthly child tax credit payments to families, billions in state and local aid to keep essential workers on the job, and robust funding for vaccine distribution. All of these tools, in addition to the Biden administration’s work making vaccines and boosters available to Americans have led to an unprecedented economic recovery.
However, Republicans remain determined to make this pandemic last as long as possible in order to hurt President Biden politically, not caring about the harm they cause the country. Their current ploy is holding up necessary funding for vaccines, tests, and treatments. Many Americans are already feeling the effects of lack of funding. To prevent backsliding and prepare for the future, Republicans must join with their Democratic colleagues and approve additional funding as soon as possible.”
