Washington, DC – The number of jobless claims last week plunged to 166,000, the lowest level since 1968. In response, Coronavirus War Room Director Nicole Haley released the following statement:
“Americans continue to get back to work thanks to the economic agenda of President Biden and Democrats. The American Rescue Plan last year provided direct stimulus checks, housing assistance and monthly child tax credit payments to families, billions in state and local aid to keep essential workers on the job, and robust funding for vaccine distribution. All of these tools have led to an unprecedented economic recovery.
However, Republicans are determined to hurt President Biden, harming their constituents by extension, by fighting against common sense measures and desperately needed funding. This week, Republicans blocked a vital package with funding that would be used to purchase vaccines, boosters, therapeutics and tests. We’re already feeling the pain of a lack of funding, and services will only continue to dry up if Republicans don’t join with Democrats and act soon. This funding is necessary to ensure we are prepared against whatever comes next, and Congress must approve it as soon as possible.”
