March 25, 2022: This Week in Republican Efforts to Prolong the Pandemic…

Republicans Continue to Play Politics with People’s Lives, Dragging Out the Pandemic

Earlier this week, funding to reimburse health care providers for uninsured testing and COVID treatment ran out, and vaccine administration funds are slated to run out by April 5th. The federal government is out of money to continue funding the government’s efforts against COVID-19. It’s up to Republicans to do the right thing, join with Democrats, and make sure we don’t lose access to the tools we need to continue to move towards normalcy.

The public agrees: new polling released this week shows the majority of Americans support Congress approving funding to continue research into new and better vaccines and potential variants, as well as continuing our access to vaccines, tests and treatments. Congress must listen to the American people and the experts and swiftly pass funding.

Rather than working with Democrats to provide this necessary funding, Republicans would rather sow conspiracy theories about vaccines (Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson is at it again, (of course), despite the fact that data released last week shows COVID is killing more people in red states than blue.

In Kentucky, the GOP legislature overrode the governor’s veto and ended the state of emergency for COVID-19. This means that the average monthly food stamp benefits would be cut by about $100, among other consequences.

In Kansas, state legislators advanced a measure that would make it easier for doctors to prescribe dangerous off-label drugs to treat COVID-19. Multiple studies have shown treatments like Ivermectin do nothing to help fight COVID-19, and passing this law will only hurt their constituents.
