President Biden’s Efforts Are Helping Get America Back on Track While Republicans Prolong the Pandemic With Their Political Games
Washington, DC – The number of Americans applying for unemployment last week plunged to 187,000, its lowest level in 52 years. In response, Coronavirus War Room Director Nicole Haley released the following statement:
“Thanks to the policies of President Biden and his administration, Americans are getting back to work knowing they can keep themselves safe. When Democrats passed the American Rescue Plan in 2021, they delivered direct stimulus checks, housing assistance and monthly child tax credit payments to families, billions in state and local aid to keep essential workers on the job, and robust funding for vaccine distribution. With the tools we have now to combat the virus, people can begin to move towards normalcy, and the numbers speak for themselves.
However, we cannot be complacent. Thanks to Republican obstruction, we’re running out of the necessary resources we require in order to sustain our response to COVID-19. Without funding, we will soon run out of life-saving treatments, providers will no longer be reimbursed for treating uninsured patients, and we will not have enough doses of vaccines to give every American a fourth booster if necessary. Our testing ability will be greatly diminished by the end of the summer. And we will fall back on our promise to vaccinate the world, leaving everyone exposed to potential new variants.
We can’t go backwards. We must prepare now in order to continue the progress we’ve made since last year. It’s up to Republicans to do the right thing and support additional funding for the federal government’s COVID-19 response as soon as they can.”
