Ron DeSantis Joins a Long List of Republicans Led By Former President Trump Whose Conspiracy Theories and Anti-Science Rhetoric Are Contributing to Vaccine Hesitancy and COVID Case Spikes
Yesterday, the Washington Post reported that Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) is selling campaign merchandise reading “Don’t Fauci My Florida,” in a baseless political attack against Dr. Anthony Fauci, Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at NIH and chief medical advisor to President Biden. This comes as Florida is experiencing some of the highest rate of cases, hospitalizations, and deaths nationwide. In response, Protect Our Care Executive Director Brad Woodhouse released the following statement:
“Florida is suffering from a major COVID spike because Ron DeSantis continues to reject commonsense measures to slow the spread of the virus, including promoting vaccinations. Instead of parroting Fox News talking points and attacking public health experts, the governor should be focused on supporting the overwhelmed hospitals in his state. If DeSantis wants to put an end to this crisis, he must quit his political games and urge his residents to get vaccinated.”
